Youth Mental Health Essay Competition – a call for your voice. (Sponsored by GAZHP)
Are you a university student in Zambia eager to contribute towards positive change for mental health and wellbeing? We want to hear your stories and ideas on how silence affects individuals, families, communities and how we can create a culture of openness and support. Enter this essay competition themed “The Costs of Silence About Mental Health Struggles in My Community”.
Submit an Essay up to 1000 words for an opportunity to win 1st prize: US$100, 2nd prize: US$75 or 3rd prize: US$50. Plus these top 3 finalists will each get a 6 month shadow internship with Global Alliance of Zambian Healthcare Professionals (GAZHP) with opportunities to gain mentorship and practical skills in networking, advocacy and programs organization in the NGO space.

- Ms Cecilia Mutokwa Masumba-Hamukale has been working incredibly hard in Australia organising fundraising events to raise money to ship a consignment of mechanical ventilators and other medical equipment to Zambia. Cecilia in conjunction with OZALIWA organised a successful gala ball on 8th October 2021.

On 17th September 2021, GAZHP representatives in Lusaka formally handed over PPE to the Ministry of Health. The PPE was donated by Zambians in the UK and shipped to Lusaka by GAZHP.

The African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI) in collaboration with Zambian Healthcare care Professionals represented by GAZHP held a successful fundraising event to raise money for a 40 ton shipment of PPEs and other medical equipment to be shipped to University Teaching Hospital (UTH), Lusaka. It is expected to arrive in Zambia in December 2021. This fundraiser was initiated through Dr David Kazhila (former GAZHP president) in his role as ADDI Global Director for Healthcare.

Ten 10 litre oxygen concentrators purchased by GAZHP from China have been delivered to airline for freight, expected to arrive in Zambia in a week or two.
Ten 5 litre oxygen concentrators have been sourced by GAZHP from Turkey and we are in advanced stages of securing support to help with freight. We will confirm as soon as further information is received.
PPE donated by UK based Zambians in the diaspora (see stories below), was shipped by GAZHP and will be handed over to the Ministry of Health in Zambia for distribution. The donation includes 6000 face shields, 20 000 surgical masks, 100 disposable gowns, 100 alcohol sanitizers, 1000 aprons, 1000 gloves.
200 pulse oximeters to be handed over this week, donated by Lifebox after being contacted by GAZHP includes 200 covers and 200 Paediatric Oxygen sensors.
Donations from Australia collected by GAZHP members in Australia include, 23 ventilators (with a possibility of 7 more), 18 hemodialysis machines, 2 dialysis chairs, 6 defibrillators. To be delivered to Zambia once freight sponsored by Airlink is confirmed.

Dr C. Malama, Medical Virologist, and GAZHP member colleague, reveals own experience of Covid-19. Dr Malama spent 15 days in ICU but thankfully recovered. He shares his experience in this video clip as both a Covid-19 patient and as a doctor.
