Dual specialist registered in Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine.
I am based on the Acute Medical Unit of West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Bury Saint Edmunds, UK.
Mainstay of my job is hospital-based clinical work involving acute admissions, frailty medicine and under direction of Haematologists and close links with Vascular Surgeons, Deep Vein Thrombosis. I am an active Designated Medical Practitioner supportive of local university trainees on non-medical prescribing courses. Until recently, I was a University of East Anglia Honorary Lecturer with tenure as a Learning Facilitator for the Physician Associates Master of Science program.
Teaching and learning from both a multi-professional team and Healthcare studies students is an honourable part of my position.
My utmost privilege is learning from all patients and their families.
My research experience was tenured as a Study Physician on the ASCOT Hypertension Study based at University of Sheffield in Medicine and Pharmacology. This tenure extended into study of nicotine pharmacokinetics and cardiovascular risk. I have had a privileged journey through medicine and pharmacology as study physician in hypertension and nicotine pharmacokinetics. Recently, I had a 3-year Lecturer post at University of East Anglia, Norwich, positioned as a Learning Facilitator for Physician Associates MSc program.
I acquired the fundamentals of learning medicine and science from undergraduate studies at University of Zambia 1983-1990 on both its BSc (Human Biology) and MBChB programs.
The learning continues, having had a Beit Trust Fellowship to achieve MRCP(UK) and an understanding of the intricacies of the ethos of working in the UK National Health Service and now as a Fellow of the Royal Society Medicine.
