Dr Lona Mwenda.

MBChB (Zambia), FCPeds (RSA), MMed Paediatrics (RSA), MPH international (UK), Paediatric Critical Care fellowship (Canada). Dr Mwenda is passionate about paediatric critical care medicine and building sustainable healthcare systems in under-resourced parts of the world like Africa. Her ambition is to improve availability and access to paediatric critical and emergency care services to these vulnerable populations. Her postgraduate paediatric training was in South Africa followed by a critical care medicine fellowship in Canada at McGill University. Her clinical experience in South Africa, Namibia and Zambia places her in good stead to understand an urgent need for healthcare workers to train in this paediatric specialty. Also at institutional level, to decrease high morbidity and mortality, there is need to increase services for lifesaving cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, acute stabilization and critical care of the sickest children. GAZHP is well positioned to support development in this important healthcare field across the age spectrum, from new-borns to adolescence.
