ADDI Fundraising Event
When the 3rd wave of Covid 19 hit Zambia, there was a lot of concern among the Zambian diaspora who made individual and collective efforts to help the struggling healthcare system cope with the ravaging pandemic. The fact that healthcare workers were dying due to lack of appropriate and adequate PPEs led Dr David Kazhila MD (former GAZHP founding president) and current Global Director for Healthcare at the Africa Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI) to approach Her Excellency Ambassador Arikana CEO and founder of ADDI to see if as an organization they could help. Ambassador Arikana agreed and immediately arranged a fundraiser in which Zambian healthcare professionals were invited, represented by Dr Joseph Yikona the current GAZHP president as well as Zambia’s Ambassador to the USA Mr Kapambwe.
Money towards the sponsorship of a 40-ton load of medical equipment and PPEs was raised in record time through donations from the diaspora not only from Zambia but from our African nations, African Americans, African Carribbeans, African Latinos and friends of Africa. GAZHP contributed $5000 to the ADDI target of $25000. This was an amazing collaboration!

The container will be sent to UTH and will be received by Dr Charles Mutemba Senior Medical Supritendent. The equipment will be distributed accordingly.

The shipment left Atlanta in September and is due to arrive at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on the 10th of December 2021. The Zambian government is expected to transport the equipment from Dar es Salaam to Lusaka.
